One of the most common questions I get is: “Why does everyone say to photograph baby within the first two weeks?”
Here’s why.
During those first 14 days, babies are typically sleepier, curlier, and more flexible. That means we can gently guide them into those cozy, womb-like poses you see in timeless newborn portraits. After about two weeks, babies begin stretching out, becoming more alert, and sometimes more sensitive to being repositioned.

That doesn’t mean older newborns can’t be photographed — they absolutely can. It just means the style may shift slightly to more wrapped, natural poses instead of deeper curled setups.

The early window also captures details that change quickly — flaky skin, tiny lashes, wrinkled toes, and that brand-new look that disappears almost overnight.
I know those first days are a blur. You’re recovering. You’re learning your baby. You’re probably not sleeping much. That’s exactly why planning ahead helps. When your session is already reserved, you don’t have to think about it after delivery. You just show up and let me take care of the rest.
Those first two weeks go by faster than any other season of motherhood. And once they’re gone, they’re gone.
